Over 700 Families in Sre Village, Kampot City, Receive Land Ownership Certificates

KAMPOT, April 10, 2024 – In a significant move to secure property rights, Kampot Provincial Authority, in coordination with the Department of Land Management, Urban Planning, Reconstruction, and Cadastral Affairs, organized a ceremony to distribute nearly 1,400 plots of land ownership certificates to residents of Sre Village, Sangkat Treuy Koh, Kampot City. The event was led by Mao Thunin, Governor of Kampot Province.

During the ceremony, Governor Thunin emphasized the fundamental role of land in life, from birth through education to familial and post-mortem needs. He urged the new landowners to cherish and utilize their titles responsibly, aligning with directives from Prime Minister Hun Manet to expedite the titling process and alleviate land disputes within the community.

Governor Thunin appealed to residents to avoid disputes that could escalate to judicial levels, stressing the importance of peaceful coexistence and proper land use. He also called upon local cadastral officials to uphold integrity and diligence in serving the community without succumbing to corruption.

Preap Sophat, Acting Director of the Department of Land Management, Urban Planning, Construction, and Cadastral Affairs in Kampot Province, provided an update on the land registration progress in Kampot City. Since the systematic land registration initiative began in 2013, the project has registered and distributed titles across 11 villages, totaling 13,607 plots. The current ceremony in Sre Village marks the distribution of titles for 1,385 plots to 752 families, encompassing residential and agricultural lands, health facilities, and areas under dispute.

This landmark distribution not only reaffirms the government's commitment to securing property rights but also enhances the socio-economic stability of families in Kampot, contributing to broader goals of development and prosperity.
